So yeah, this is the most social media I do. I guess I'm not a very public person. Anywho, life is going well. Maddog, Fal and I are well at home and in our respective careers. Our cats are good and fat. And, because it is Christmas/Solstice, the tree has present cancer. The ribbon adorned tumors have covered the tree skirt and are starting to eclipse the carpet. I enjoys it, but don't get it. I have railed against the materialism and keep my gift giving modest; everything for everyone on my list could fit in a laundry basket. Fal collects all year like a squirrel and Maddog is the king of parcels insisting of funny shaped packages to obscur

Ok, so I have been MIA from DA for a whole year. Sorry to anyone who actually keeps tabs on me or has interest in anything I do here. 2014 was swung back and forth and so many things changed that I thought were not going to change. The biggest change was in career. I used to work for the power company that covers most of SC. I had just made my 5 year anniversary early 2014 and I thought things were going well enough. Well, apparently office politics were seriously whack and I somehow became a target despite my ongoing efforts to keep my head down. Nothing I said or did was right and the middle manager out right said that she was "inspiring m

Resolutions

0 min read
OK, here are my 2014 resolutions... 1. Fix things around the house. The list is long and pinned to the bulletin board in the kitchen. 2. Give up all sugar and aspartame sweetened sodas and only drink sparkling water flavored with real juice. 3. Stop freaking out about loosing weight. Instead I will start focusing on how long I can go on the treadmill without getting winded and the quality and downsized quantity of food consumed. 4. I will endeavor to do some kind of art everyday. 5. And most important... I will be happy.

The thread closed so i couldn´t reply to you anymore:

I agree with you, the critiques in the video weren´t really helpful. Still, she reacted like a little child. I think even if the critiques are stupid, you should still be able to act like an adult

Yep, the girl in the video did go off the deep end. I have to admit that I had one critique in college that stung so hard that I had to bite my lip to keep from crying in front of everyone.

I see myself as more of a crafter than a fine artist. In ceramics class I made a lot of actually useful items like dinnerware and food grade dishes rather than sculptures. Well, one day I had made a communal bowl in the shape of a large bird's nest with little birds around the edge to rest one's chopsticks on. (In college my friends and I used to stir fry and curry a lot of foods and pick it out of the pan with chopsticks to save dishes while sharing a meal.) During the critique portion of the project I received a scathing review from my peers because they viewed my work as too domestic. Even after showing what I thought was a cleaver way of using sculpture as an everyday item and incorporating nature in the form like traditional Asian dishware they still came down hard. It seemed that all they wanted was avant-garde or surreal pieces. He professor still gave me one of the highest grades in the class, but it still hurt like hell to have one's peers be so critical.
